NLP Trainers

The quality of your Trainer will have a major impact on your experience of NLP. So what should you look for?

Well, at the very least they should be qualified, which means they have been certified as NLP Practitioner, NLP Master Practitioner, and NLP Trainer with, at least one, reputable training provider.

These qualifications should be verifiable. When you talk to the trainer check out if they have the following:

  • They have a real NLP training qualification. If they are qualified from a reputable training organisation, their qualifications should be verifiable, sometimes from an independent website. So, verify their qualifications.
  • They have professional experience using NLP, so you can learn from someone with real experiences.
  • They regularly use NLP as a practitioner (as opposed to a purely training or business context) so you can learn from someone with real one on one client experiences.
  • They have professional experience outside of NLP, so you can learn from someone with real contexts to apply the knowledge and skills.
  • They have taken the time to develop themselves and obtain the trainers status over time.
  • They are able to demonstrate NLP patterns, not just talk about them.
  • They are able to deal with questions and issues in an engaging way, to demonstrate their ability to communicate effectively.
  • Has a training style that suits you. This is an individual thing, but important to consider.
  • They care about your learning.
  • They are able to work with you real time, unscripted.
  • They are able to teach without notes.
  • They can present any topic, any time and create connection to help you integrate the different topics

Many have asked, so here are some guidelines to learning NLP

Penguin jumping out of the water
All about practice, precision, calibration and evaluating your own performance

By Sonya Yeh Spencer, Certified ITA NLP Trainer

Over the years we often have people asking about the “trick” to learning NLP well. I think the “trick” is to work with the way our brain codes your learning experience, creates understanding and insight into subject matter. The key to mastery is “familiarisation” of the skills that you are acquiring. This means you need to practice, practice and practice some more. In fact you need to practice in a specific way, and here is the low down, based on training and our own learning experience:

Focus on applying NLP on yourself first, and others second!

Before you start applying NLP to others, please do it to yourself first. Along the way to self mastery, you need to build up some critical skills to be effective. We call them the Critical Skill Builders:

  • Your ability to manage and work with your own emotional state
  • Your ability to build rapport rapidly with yourself and others
  • Your ability to calibrate people’s unconscious signals accurately and testing them
  • Your ability to self evaluate your own performance from 3rd and identify what needs to change

Notice the “difference that makes the difference”

  • Have first hand experience with the pattern. Use all patterns on yourself and understand the impact for you. Specifically what worked and what did not work and how can you make it work.
  • Practice the Pattern, not just Repeating it. Practice with an attitude of wanting to know how to work a pattern for the best results. Practice means learning by noticing differences every time you apply a pattern and making adjustments to refine your skills for the next iteration of applying the pattern. If you do the same thing over and over again with no understanding of what needs to be improved, than that is repeating rather than practicing. Repeating a less than useful version of a pattern is just re-enforcing a bad version.

Stick to these principles:

  • It is not the content or the story of an issue or situation that is important. It is the process that people get themselves into the situation or issue that is important. So, real NLP patterns focus on the process not the content (for example, individuals opinion of what is right or wrong or their interpretation of a situation or about people who are involved). It is the process that is important not the content.
  • Respecting other people’s “map of the world”: NLP is designed to help people to create options, not take options away or imposing what we think is right. So the key to bear in mind is that we use NLP techniques to provoke responses that can generate more options in life. Rather than imposing our map of the world to others and you need to apply it in such a way to enable people and yourself to make the right choices. This means keeping your own content to yourself, please.
  • Mind and body are integrated. When applying NLP to self and others, it is important to calibrate congruence and incongruence. If you applied a technique and thought it worked with no evidence, then, how do you know it worked? Congruence must exist in all output channels.

NLP New Code – what is it and why is it the game changer?

NLP NEW CODE in 6 word chunks

Patterns are predictable and repeatable.

Life is a series of patterns.

The New Code of NLP enables a relationship to unfold between the conscious and unconscious mind that creates all kinds of life experiences. The New Code Practitioner learns to suspend conscious filters for the unconscious to present choice after choice, creating constant possibilities. The conscious acknowledges the new choices, and the dance goes on to new levels of personal performance, the result being new levels of personal excellence.

Undecided about whether you need some Coaching or Training in NLP?

By Mark Spencer, Certified ITA NLP Trainer

Undecided about whether you need some Coaching, Mentoring or should you get Trained in the meta-discipline of NLP?

We have many coaching and mentoring clients who became students so that they could have mastery over their behaviours. If you are undecided as to whether you would be better with coaching, mentoring or being trained, then maybe a blend is best for you…

When we coach, we are keen to understand your specific outcomes and proceed from there. Maybe you are a self-starter, and you might find that the best way forward is to be trained in the meta-discipline of NLP so it applies to so many aspects of your life.

If you find that your issue is that you don’t know where to start or that everything is inter-linked, and you want to really understand your way forward on a whole of life scale, then maybe you are ready for diving in right now to our NLP Foundations course or a taster by attending our NLP Introduction course.

The upside of attending a course is you that will be able to learn more and gain more tools to utilise in all areas of your life. The down side might be that the course might not be as targeted to your specific needs. If you are flexible, keen to learn and think that you’re up to it, then the training with some coaching is a great way to proceed.

The one on one session is extremely effective because we are able to individually focus on your own specific need, your outcome(s) or performance requirements.

Feed back from many of our clients who have attended the course after their coaching sessions has been extremely positive.

What is Emergence?

Everyone is at different stages of emerging. Leaders emerge on to the world stage all the time, re-inventing themselves, and creating a new aspect of their own self. Ex-US president Clinton emerges as a philanthropist. Nelson Mandella was convicted for crimes for which he spent 27 years in imprisonment. Making a valuable contribution to the abolition of apartheid, he then emerged as the President of South Africa, the first Black to be elected to this post, and winner of more than a hundred awards including the Nobel Prize for Peace.

Leaders emerge every day within self-directed teams in the modern workplace. According to Goleman, studies of outstanding performers in organisations show that about two thirds of the abilities that set star performers apart in the leadership stakes are based on emotional intelligence. Only a third of the skills that matter relate to raw intelligence (as measured by IQ) and technical expertise.

What do we publish?

We are continually researching and publishing in the areas of business, self-improvement, personal creativity, modeling, being a Change Agent, Emotional Intelligence, therapy, utilizing your unconscious and any developments that might assist any human in their emergence in this day and age.

By keeping up to date with scientific research into concepts like mirror neurons, brain functions, neurology, healing, attention, eye movements, related techniques, metaphors for life and learning, we can also keep you informed with some of our blog entries on these topics.
